Time
to put the loon nest in. Randy and I gathered the parts on the
lakefront.
|
We
tried to plan ahead and prevent the black flies from bothering the
loons. So we
added a couple POP Fly Traps on diagonal poles. They have a solution
that
attracts flies and traps them in the bottles. We will see how well they
will
work.

The
nest was assembled and I put some of the dead reeds that were washed up
on the
shore on the base as nesting material.
|
Then
Randy & I kayaked the nest over to the location near the east side
of the
county park. We put the anchors (3 cement blocks stored on shore there)
and
took it out about waist deep and anchored it down. We faced it out
toward the
middle of the lake.

Lastly,
we hauled the buoys and sign out and placed them in a arc about 100’
feet out
from the nest.

Randy
took this photo of me pointing to the nest in place.
The WaterBNB is
ready for
the loon pair!
