Checking
the loon nest
May 25,

It's been awhile since I
was able to go north and check on the loons.

I
wasn’t able to get back to the cottage for a few weeks to check on the progress
of the loons. They weren’t on the nest and I feared the worst-scared off by
black flies.
|
The
nesting material was largely gone. Apparently a lot of windy days.
Two eggs were in the nest.

The
POP Fly Traps seemed to have very little flies in the bottom. So they likely
didn’t help much. But there were no flies on the top like last year.
|
I didn’t get any other photos of the nest as
most days were too windy to go out. But the loons were observed with binoculars
to be on the nest and off the nest. So
maybe they will lay a couple more eggs and get past the black fly season.
